The 3rd FAI World Hang Gliding Sport Class Championships officially launched in Laveno, Italy, on June 1st, 2025. The event is organized by Delta Club Laveno and Aeroclub Lega Piloti, in collaboration with the Comune di Laveno Mombello.

It is supported by the Camera di Commercio di Varese, Varese Sport Commission, and Comunità Montana Valli del Verbano, and held under the patronage of Regione Lombardia, Provincia di Varese, Comune di Cittiglio, and Comune di Sangiano.

A total of 49 pilots from 15 countries have gathered to compete against the stunning backdrop of Lago Maggiore. Laveno, located in northern Italy, is a renowned hang gliding destination. Even the most seasoned pilots recognize it as a true "flight gym", thanks to its unique flying conditions and diverse terrain. The competition is set in the Pre-Alps, above Lake Maggiore, in northwestern Italy near the Swiss border.

During the opening ceremony, pilots and guests were welcomed by Luca Santagostino, Mayor of Laveno; Stefano Arcifa, President of AeroClub d’Italia; Andrew Cowley, FAI CIVL Jury President and other dignitaries. They warmly thanked the pilots and sponsors for making the event possible. Special appreciation was extended to Flavio Tebaldi, President of Delta Club Laveno, and Fabio Caresi, President of Aeroclub Lega Piloti, with heartfelt recognition to Barbara Sonzogni, CIVL delegate, whose dedication and hard work were key in bringing this project to life.

The event will be held until the 14th of June, when the prize-giving ceremony will take place.
